Things to do now to avoid regret in your 80's.

When you are in your early adult years and moving well and have no aches and pains, we tend to forget that one day we will be older and won't be able to move quite as well. But, it does happen.  :)  What can you do now to prepare for your retirement years? 

 1. Strength train for a quality of life. Having strength and mobility is the difference between independence and the nursing home. 

2. Invest in community and friendship. A good life is cultivating relationships with the people that you love and those that inspire you. 

3. Do gentle stretches and mobility work every day to stay flexible, mobile and injury free. 

4. Take care of your knees, hip and low back because you'll need these as you get older. 

5. Try breathwork or meditation. Knowing how to breathe properly will help with managing your stree, emotions and reactions to stress. 

6. Focus on the quantity and quality of your sleep. This will help you stay energetic while protecting your brain and body from disease.

7. Eat a whole food diet for your mental and physical health. 

8. Walk outside every day. Walking is the most underrated habit for your brain and body as well as for longevity. 

At The Pilates Place we can very easily help with numbers 1-6, but the rest is up to you. (Why 6? Studies have found that proper exercise can alleviate sleep-related problems ).
