Spring Fever - How to avoid catching it!

Springtime is here, and with longer warmer days many of us have begun to suffer from “Spring Fever”. Most of us know what it feels like. We’ve surely experienced it at one time or another! Webster’s Dictionary defines Spring fever as “a lazy or restless feeling often associated with the onset of Spring”.

We're here to tell you to not let your Spring fever get you away from your consistency in your fitness routine. Here are five reasons why you need to keep chugging along with your workouts regardless of the season:

It’s future proofing. Do you want to be active in your 80s, playing golf, going for long walks and get out of a chair without it being a kind of national incident? Do you want to get on the floor and play with your grandkids or be able to make just one trip from the car with ALL the groceries? Keep exercising now to feel empowered later.

It’s good for your mental health. In my 20s I realized somehow that exercise was good for me mentally. I knew that going for a run was about clearing my brain and getting back on track if I’d had a bad day. That feeling has grown and while running isn’t a part of my life anymore, I know that the days when I workout, I’m can focus better and am a nicer human. 🙂

It helps you sleep. Regular exercise has been associated with improved sleep quality, including deeper and more restorative sleep. It can help you fall asleep faster, reduce the frequency of waking up during the night, and increase the overall duration of sleep. Start to take note of the days that you exercise and see if you sleep better.

It gives you energy. Sounds counter intuitive, doesn't it? Regular physical activity can improve your endurance and energy levels, making it easier to perform daily tasks and reduce feelings of fatigue. Ever notice on rainy days where you just lay around and watch Netflix, how tired and unmotivated you feel? Get up and move daily!

It’s about balance. Think weight management. Exercise burns calories, which helps you maintain a healthy weight or lose excess weight. It also helps to build muscle mass, which can increase your metabolic rate and make it easier to maintain weight loss. Want to eat a bag of chips or have another glass of wine? If you exercise regularly, it’ll help negate some of your eating choices.

So, keep at it….it’s Spring, but try not to catch a fever with your fitness routine!
